Friday, March 9, Community Living Mississauga and ODEN co-hosted a Business Engagement Event to bring businesses from the area together to hear the business case for engaging people who have a disability.

Keynote speaker Sean Callaghan, Area General Manager for Sodexo at Loblaw Canada shared his success story. Sean has been hiring people with disabilities for 10 years and currently 20% of employees have a disclosed disability. Sean was accompanied by three local business leaders from Compass Canada, Stanley Black & Decker Canada Corp. and a local No Frills store.

Each business operator told their story about becoming an inclusive workspace, the benefits they’ve derived from hiring people who have a disability and the support they received from the service agency – Community Living Mississauga. The panel also dispelled many of the fears and the misconceptions about hiring people who have a disability.

At the conclusion of the event, several businesses approached CL Mississauga Employment team members to discuss plans for follow up discussions. One business was eager to get CL Mississauga in to coordinate hiring prior to their April 1st season launch!

“Thank you so much for your support of our Business Breakfast this morning. We have received a lot of really great feedback, especially regarding the business panel, and it truly is a result of all the hard work and support of you and your team at ODEN.”

Marissa Marr, Day Supports Manager, Community Living Mississauga

“We thoroughly enjoyed being on the panel and answering questions! We appreciate all of the help and support by the job coaches that we have received over the years bringing on new individuals to Stanley Black & Decker”
